Today we’d like to introduce you to Daphne Subar.

Daphne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After practicing law for over 25 years, I decided to follow my passion. As a mother of three daughters, I always encourage my daughters to follow their dreams and now it was my turn (thanks to their encouragement). I left the practice of law and launched Subarzsweets. Before doing so, I wanted to create a unique baked good that was different from all other products available on the market. After numerous experiments in the kitchen, Subarz were created. Subarz are a cross between mandelbread/biscotti and a cookie. They are crunchy (but not hard) like biscotti and sweet like a cookie. Subarz come in a variety of flavors and varieties including gluten-free, nut-free and dairy-free options.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a fairly smooth road and I have been lucky. When I was first starting out, I kept it simple – one flavor (Traditional Chocolate Chip with Cinnamon Sugar) and one size package. Once I had that established, I was able to expand to over 20 varieties and four different package sizes, plus a Subscription option. I have learned much along the way – how to market, establish a brand, promote my business through social media, etc. Each of those required me to stop and learn something new. Some struggles include getting the word out about Subarz to new clients, scaling my production and hiring.

Subarz are a unique baked good which are a delicious treat to send to someone. We are primarily an online bakery, with nationwide shipping. We specialize in one product- Subarz – which are available in many different varieties ranging from Traditional Chocolate Chip to Gotcha Matcha. Subarz require no refrigeration and last up to 8 weeks which makes them a perfect treat to send to someone. Subarzsweets helps you with all of your gift-giving and we try to make the entire process easy for our clients. If you are ordering for yourself, it is easy to navigate through our website and with the Sampler Box (one of our most popular choices) you can customize a box to contain up to four different flavors. If you are sending gifts to others, we can help you through that process. If sending more than five gifts, there is no need to enter all that information into our website.

You can just email us at orders@subarzsweets.com and forward a spreadsheet with who you want Subarz sent to, what you would like sent, what you would like the handwritten note to say and when you would like your gift sent. Nothing could be easier and our clients rave about how easy we make the gift-giving process. All gifts come tied with a beautiful ribbon and include a handwritten note which is another way that Subarzsweets is different from other companies. I am most proud of how our business has grown over the past 3 1/2 years as well as how I have grown as an entrepreneur and the amount of information I have learned in the process.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think people will continue to appreciate home-baked and unique gifts for the holidays and with everyone’s busy schedules will continue to appreciate the customer service we provide. Subarzsweets strives to make everyone’s gift-giving needs easier. Home baked treats, in rare and delicious flavors continue to be popular and Subarz strives to make the world just a little bit sweeter, bite-by-bite. I think the trend will continue towards supporting small, women-owned businesses as well as unique businesses that offer one-of-a-kind products that are homemade.
