We had the good fortune of connecting with Daphne Subar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daphne, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
It sounds cliche, but I think the most important lesson I have learned is that there is nothing you can’t do if you are passionate and are willing to work hard. I left the practice of law in 2016 to launch Subarzsweets, an online bakery/gift-giving business that specializes in a unique baked good called Subarz. I had never done anything like this before and had a lot to learn. I was passionate about starting my own business, creating something unique to help others and that passion motivated me to learn as much as possible to start and grow my business.

What should our readers know about your business?
Subarzsweets is an online bakery/gift-giving service that can handle all your gift-giving needs. Subarz are a unique baked good that are different from all other products on the market. It is obvious to the recipient once they open the box that thought went into sending such a delicious gift, tied with a ribbon and accompanied by a handwritten note. And, once they taste Subarz they will immediately know that these treats are different than all others on the market. I am most proud of myself for actually taking the leap from practicing law to launching this business, despite my fears and insecurities. I am proud of how much Subarzsweets has grown in 4 years. We started with one flavor and one size package and now have over 20 varieties, 4 different package options, a Subscription service and we have shipped to almost 50 states. It hasn’t been easy but I have never given up and want to show others how you can follow your passion if you set your mind to it! Nothing is impossible and anything is possible with hard work, devotion and of course, a good support system.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much to see and do in Los Angeles and it really depends on who is visiting. I love taking visitors to the beach and make sure that we drive over Kanan or Las Virgenes Canyon to get to the beach as that drive is just as pretty as the destination. I would also head up to Santa Ynez for a day of wine tasting and relaxing. Other places that I would want to take my friend to are shopping on Abbott Kinney, hiking Fryman Canyon and since I am a kid at heart, to Disneyland. There is so much to do and since the weather almost always cooperates, we can be outdoors most of the time which I enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have supported me on this journey. My three daughters encouraged me to follow my passion and pursue my dreams, just like I taught them. My husband continually encourages me to learn more and reminds me that I can do this. My sister never calls me crazy, never gives up on me and helps me brainstorm new ideas and flavors. It took the support, encouragement and love of many to help me succeed.
